Army CHAPLAIN (Colonel) Clifford W Owens, (Retired) and wife Ruth

 

Cliff was born in 1936, preached his first bible message at age 21, served 60 years in the ministry, with 26 years as a chaplain in the United States Army (one year in Vietnam.)

            In Vietnam, he had the opportunity to preach to about 600 soldiers every day, with every day bringing a Sunday sermon, somewhere in the war zone. He received the “Vietnamese Medal of Honor, 1st Class” for helping rebuild a church that had been destroyed. At one time in the military, he performed up to 5 funerals in a single day. Cliff says,” …as an Army Chaplain, I have learned that God has provided everything I need to be a faithful witness of His grace in this fallen world. And what He’s done for me, He’ll do for you. May we please Him who called us to be good soldiers of Jesus Christ.” Cliff’s book, “A Soldier Looks at Spiritual Warfare”, can be found on Amazon.

          Cliff has been married to Ruth Agar Owens for 66 years. They have four children with one of them being a; Brigadier General, U.S. Army (Retired). One of Ruth’s favorite songs when he was in Vietnam was: “All your anxiety, all your care, Bring to the mercy seat- leave it there; Never a burden He cannot bear, never a friend like Jesus!” by Edmond Henry Joy. What a comforting song!

          Cliff is one of some 16 million existing veterans, with each one having done or currently doing their part for OUR freedom! Some gave their limbs, some gave of their mental stability (PTSD), some lost families, and some gave all the above, for US.

 A “Thank You Pack” is a good method to show our appreciation to veterans, and express GOD’s love through Jesus Christ for them!

HOW TO THANK A VET is dedicated to Corporal Herb Haines

  HOW TO THANK A VET is dedicated to Corporal Herb Haines, “United States Marine Corps” and his wife, Elaine, four boys, and eight grandchildren . Herb served our country from 1965 to 1968, with time in Vietnam from October 1966 to November 1967. Over the years, when Herb was reminded that the Marines were a department of the Navy, he always said, “yeah”, “ THE MENS DEPARTMENT ”. One thing is for sure, “Once a Marine, always a Marine”. Herb worked at Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Watertown, WI, from 1995 to 2006, with Elaine working there for most of that time. He was a great friend and blessing to families, faculty, staff, and especially students; as a bus driver for many athletic and fine arts events, he memorized each name.
